Many poor countries are rich in natural resources, but their people rarely share in that wealth. Around the world, money from gold, diamonds, natural gas, and oil is being stolen and squandered. It's propping up dictators, fueling violence, and even deepening poverty, all because there's no accountability. Corporations often pay governments in secret. The money has no trail.
But we can do something about it. Congress can 'open the books' on corporations that work in these countries – creating a money trail and helping millions of poor people in the process. Help put pressure on Congress to require these companies to publish what they pay – because a country's natural resources shouldn't be a burden on its poorest citizens."
